Our Research
Our research explores how Zines ‘craft contention’ about mental health.
Over the next three years we will identify, analyse and co-produce a diverse range of what we collectively refer to as MadZines.

We will be asking:
- How do MadZines communicate new understandings of mental health diagnoses, identities and experiences?
- In particular, what do MadZines have to say about controversial and hidden diagnoses, pathologised identities and experiences?
- How – in communicating those understandings – do MadZines use diverse styles of contention, such as humour, parody and other forms of subversion?
- How can the creation, content and sharing of MadZines support pathologised individuals and communities?
